Welcome, Baby Mutrux!
Sylas Duncan Mutrux has arrived
We are so happy to introduce Sylas Duncan Mutrux to the family! Born June 20, 2026, in Burlington, VT, at 10:36 PM, Sylas weighed in at 7 lbs 9.3 oz and measured 21 inches long.
Choosing his name meant digging into both sides of the family tree — the Mutrux side and the Coe side — for inspiration. Early contenders included Mae, Duncan, and Minnie from the Mutrux line, and Susan, Sophie, and Sylvanus from the Coe line. Sylvanus almost got laughed off the list until we learned it means "of the forest" — a name that felt just right for this little guy. From there, we tried on a few variations until we landed on one that fit: Sylas Duncan Mutrux.
WELCOME BABY PARTY RECAP
May 31, 2026 — Green Mountain Monastery, Greensboro
Before Sylas even arrived, family and friends gathered to celebrate his coming. It was a joyful mix of reunions with people we hadn't seen in years and new connections with neighbors who've recently moved to the area. Guests decorated garlands, painted onesies, and crafted heart-shaped "wish cards" for the baby — all of which are now waiting at home to greet him. Thank you to everyone who came out and shared in the celebration of this new little life!
Part of our celebration was creating a "Heart Card" — a handmade envelope, closed with a little heart clasp, holding a wish or piece of artwork for Sylas. Some were mailed in by loved ones who couldn't make the party, others were dropped in the basket that day, and many were created live at the celebration. Together, they make up Baby Mutrux's very first art collection. We look forward to sharing the wishes and art with Sylas as he gets older. What a beautiful welcome.
THE JOURNEY: HERE WE GO!
On June 17, Harry, unborn baby, and me, all savored one last quiet day at home together — coffee, a walk by the pond, and the calm before everything changed. The next morning, June 18, we headed to UVM for a scheduled induction at 39 weeks, 2 days. After about 60 hours of labor, made the call to move forward with an unplanned C-section to keep Baby Mutrux safe. He arrived on June 20, with Barb the first to spot him in the operating room and announce, "It's a boy!" before he was whisked off to meet Wayne and Micah — a safe arrival we owe to an incredible team of nurses, midwives, doulas, fetal medicine doctors, and anesthesiologists. The days that followed were a blur of 4 AM feedings and round-the-clock support from the Mama & Baby unit staff as we learned how to hold, feed, and care for our very slippery, very floppy newborn, all while watching the sun rise over Mount Mansfield and mulling over names. By June 24, when we finally left the hospital, we'd made it official: Sylas Duncan Mutrux was headed home.
LIFE ON COLD SPRING LANE
Home has been a whirlwind since we arrived — Sylas is already a month old! We're all figuring each other out and settling into a new rhythm. Parenting has proven to be the ultimate endurance sport, testing every ounce of stamina we've got. Grandma and Grandpa have been absolute lifesavers, pitching in on everything from caring for Sylas to taking care of us.
